The Silver Night Anniversary is one of our favourite sounding amplifiers - it offers so much performance at a very reasonable price. This line level integrated version is a real purists delight, with no global feedback and an output of 7-8 watts per channel it is ideally partnered with speakers of approximately 90dB sensitivity and upwards, although its much more potent than the power figure would suggest.

It uses one 300B directly heated triode output valve per channel driven by a 6H23/6922/E88CC dual triode valve.

There are 5 line inputs, a line output and optionally it can be specified with remote control of the volume. The smart half width aluminium chassis with stainless top plate also features a fully enclosed housing on top for the mains transformer, helping reduce noise getting into the delicate audio circuitry.

The Anniversary features a large choke filtered power supply, high grade audio components and a very serious pair of output transformers - as ever with a circuit design so minimalistic it’s the quality of the power supply, parts and output transformers that dictate the results, and here it’s obvious that they really are superb.

The signal path is hard wired instead of on a printed circuit board. This much more time consuming construction technique has numerous benefits, it facilitates positioning components in three dimensions resulting in shorter signal paths and less component interaction, it reduces the number of joints the signal has to go through and means that only component legs rather than PCB tracks pass the signal, with all the benefits that brings in conductor and insulation quality. What this means sonically is greater transparency and an even more natural and organic presentation.

The output transformers are much larger and more sophisticated and are undoubtedly responsible for this amplifiers great weight and substance, it belies its low power output and can drive almost any well designed speaker exceptionally well. Don’t let its apparent low power put you off, it is not only exceptionally fast and potent sounding but also as open and airy as only a good single ended design can be.

The 300B is rightly considered to produce some of the most believable mid band performance, the sort that can give goose bumps, and in this design, thanks to the power supply and output transformers, there's also the dynamics, scale and bandwidth that complete the sonic picture. It's the sort of amplifier that simply disappears, leaving most competitors sounding contrived and mechanical.

This amplifier is exceptional at it's price point, with speed, dynamics and musicality in spades. You really do need to hear what it can do in your system!
