Icon Stereo 40 Integrated Valve Amplifier (Used Item)

We have taken this Icon Stereo 40 in part exchange to help a customer upgrade. This is an excellent amplifier, we sold it originally and are very pleased to be able to sell it again!

This amplifier is a classic design which uses a pair of EL34 valves per channel in push pull to produce approximately 37 watts per channel in ultra linear mode. It can also be switched to the lower power triode mode (18 watts) but with most speakers I've always favoured the sound in Ultra Linear.

These amplifiers have a meaty sound, with plenty of punch and refinement. They are a great advert for the superb EL34 valves strengths, tonally it's spot on and tjhis amplifier was a bargain when introduced and is a bargain at its current used price too.

It's a simple no frills design, it has 3 live level inputs and a tape monitor switch. A smart and easily removable valve cage is included.

Naturally the amplifier has been checked over thoroughly in our service department, and prior to sale numerous electrolytic capacitors have been replaced as a precautionary measure. The output valves will also be replaced prior sale and will be biased all ready for use.

Please note it is a fixed bias design, so if the output valves are changed the amplifier will need to be adjusted to match, this is easily performed with a basic multimeter (not included) or we can do it for you for a small fee.

The original manual is included and we have the original packaging (not from this particular amplifier but another identical example). It has of course been auditioned and it's sounding great.

There is some discolouration of the plating on the amplifier, the black on the transformer housing has taken on a rather pleasant bronze hue in places. I would grade the overall condition as approximately a 6/10 with most of the 'defects' simply being natural aging of the finishes.

It comes with a 6 month warranty on the unit itself and a 3 month warranty on the valves.
