Ortofon Quintet Bronze MC Cartridge

The Quintet Bronze is the third model up in the Ortofon MC range of cartridges. As is common with Ortofon models the Bronze version is something of an outlier, with a presentation subtly different from the other models in the family.

Technically the differences are a Nude Fine Line diamond traces the grooves and high purity 4 Nine copper wire are used in the generator coild but seemingly with less turns which results in a reduced output (still fine for almost any MC phono stage).

The resulting sound is perhaps a little more rose tinted than normal, it's rich and sweet, perhaps even a touch warm and will be ideal for slightly aggressive sounding setups or for those that just fancy a slightly more full bodied and laid back presentation than found elsewhere. The difference is perhaps not as night and day as the above sentence suggests, we're talking subtle degrees of variation and not a quantum shift, but it is different take from either of the models that sit above and beneath it in the Quintet range. 

Thanks to the large square body is a doddle to align (although users without easy VTA adjustment may want to note it is quite a tall cartridge, and their width at the rear can cause problems in some cramped headshells - if in doubt please just ask). It might lack the refinement and resolution of the more expensive models this is still a great way to dip your toe into the waters of affordable MC cartridges, sounding warm without losing the immediacy MC cartridges are often praised for.
