Pro-Ject Acrylic Platter Upgrade

This listing is for a new Pro-Ject Acryl-It, a platter upgrade that's suitable for certain Pro-Ject turntables (please see list below, either as an upgrade or original factory fitment) and elevates them to their 'Espirit' standard. The standard metal platter originally fitted to some of these turntables is quite strongly resonant, adding a lot of character (thickened bass and adding mid range muddle). A felt mat is used to try to damp this some of this, but this loses information (at high frequencies) as it allows the LP to move fractionally against the movement of the stylus.

The Acryl-It replaces both platter and mat, solving both problems and results in a much more neutral and open sound. Acrylic is used, as it has been in many high end turntables over the years, as it has very low resonance and is often referred to as having a good 'impedance match' to the record, as it is a similar material to vinyl.

This 12" diameter platter is made from 20mm thick material that is beautifully machined all around, a laborious process and one of the reasons why manufacturers can not afford to use this material on cheaper turntables. On the top there's a recess for the record label, underneath there's as much material retained at the perimeter as possible so that it has a good flywheel effect, which accounts for its not insubstantial 1.2kg weight

Sonically you should hear a cleaner, more open and less coloured sound, with less of the thump and ring that you get from the standard metal platter.

This listing is for a new Pro-Ject Acryl-It E, a platter upgrade that's suitable for the Project Elemental, Essential and Primary turntables.

The Acryl-It E replaces both standard MDF platter and felt mat, and results in a cleaner and more open sound. Acrylic is used, as it has been in many high end turntables over the years, as it has very low resonance and is often referred to as having a good 'impedance match' to the record, as it is a similar material to vinyl.

This 12" diameter 1.2kg platter is made from 20mm thick material that is beautifully machined, a laborious process and one of the reasons why manufacturers can not afford to use this material on cheaper turntables. The spindle/bearing piece is included and already fitted, meaning it just drops into place.

Sonically you should hear a less dampened, cleaner, more open and less coloured sound, with less of the greyness and imprecision that you tend get from the standard metal platter and mat combination.
