There are three different grades of Rega external tonearm cables. They are for the straight Rega tonearms and can be fitted to Rega arms all the way back to the original RB250 and RB300 (however please see not about these arms with a metal arm base). We regret none are available for the S shaped arms.
These cable do have to be soldered to the internal tonearm wiring and this can be quite fiddly, as the wires inside the arm are very thin and the insulation needs to be burnt off with the soldering iron. We would recommend this is best done by an experienced solderer, but if in doubt we can fit this cable for you for a small labour charge.
RB220 External cable
This is the entry level cable, it is small, flexible but also low capacitance and well screened - so whilst it doesn't look impressive it still works very well. Please note this cable is intended for use with plastic arm bases, for arms with metal bases (as found on the RB250 and RB300 etc) you will need to add an additional ground from wire or copper foil (please see *Note at bottom of this page).
RB330 External Cable
This cable is normally found on the RB303 and RB330 but can be fitted to many other Rega tonearms as an upgrade, including the RB202 and RB220 (along with arms that Rega make for other manufacturers include NAD, Moth, Edwards Audio and many others) and is ideal if you have a damaged or faulty cable. RB880 External Cable
This is the current top of the range cable available from Rega that is normally fitted to the RB880 & RB3000 tonearm, but will also fit all straight Rega tonearms without modification (and arms that Rega make for other manufacturers include NAD, Moth, Edwards Audio and many others) and is ideal if you want and upgrade or have a damaged or faulty cable.
It features the high quality locking RCA phono plugs (the silver barrel is on a thread and is used to open and close the clamping on the RCA socket) with a flexible and well screened low capacitance cable, making it ideal with both MM and MC cartridges.
This is a direct fit for all Rega arms that use the black straight arm tubes. This cable comes with the copper ground tab to earth the metal work on the tonearm, and therefore is suitable for use without modification on any straight Rega tonearms whether they have the metal or plastic bases.
*Note for RB220 and RB330 external arm cables when used on tonearms with a metal arm bases (i.e. where the external cable pushes into):
These cable can be used on these metal threaded arms, but I would recommend that you add in a connection from the ground solder point that is sandwiched inside the armbase to make a connection - this is ideally fabricated from copper foil, but thin copper wire will also suffice - these are not included. This should be positioned opposite the hex bolt (not included) that fixes this to the arm tube). The drawing in the pictures not only shows where the wires go but also where this grounding strip should be fitted.
