The Planar 3 is, for very good reason, an absolute classic turntable. The original iconic version was launched in 1976 and whilst the design has significantly evolved over the years, the latest version remains faithful to the overall concept of the original generation.
It is available in different colours and we can supply it with or without a cartridge (and there are even more cartridge options available, if you want one just ask!). We prefer to setup the turntable and fit the counterweight, so it's all ready to go when you collect it, but if you would prefer to do this yourself just let us know.
The Planar 3 is hand made in the UK (in Southend on Sea) and features the superb RB330 tonearm. A design using a cast arm tube which remove the normal joints found on most other tonearms making it very rigid - this reduces the chances of amplifying surface noise and gives great resolution.
The motor is a 24v design, with manual speed change (which takes just seconds to do) or it can be connected to the optional Neo power supply for improved speed control and electronic 33.3/45rpm speed switching.
The high quality brass bearing supports a heavy 12mm thick glass platter, giving great speed stability and solid bass weight. The plinth is stiffened with a brace that ties the two important reference points, the platter and the tonearm, reducing vibration and resonance.
A clear lid is included, which can be both hinged upwards or lifted off entirely.
