MC Cartridges

Moving Coil (MC) Cartridges have the benefit of a lower moving mass than Moving Magnet designs, due to this they generally produce a lower output voltage (about 1/10th of an MM cartridge) requiring either a phono stage with a dedicated MC input or a Step Up transformer between the cartridge and an MM input.

Bar a very few rare exceptions, Moving Coil cartridges do not have user replaceable stylus assemblies, but most manufacturers offer either a retip service or an exchange against another model in their range.
